2006-05-23 - 9:49 p.m. Step 1- Make sure you have RealPlayer on your computer. I don't mean to turn anything into an advertisement for anything else, but you'll need it for the rest of the steps, so get it (free) and if you want just delete it after you obey the rest of my instructions. Step 2- Copy this text and paste it into your address bar. I'd make the html for a link, but i don't know how and i'm too lazy anyway. I only like the strikethrough. http://fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16774 Step 3- scroll down to the entry heading 6.05-06 and find where it says "Gin Blossoms 'Learning The Hard Way'" and click on it. Step 4- Bask in the 45 seconds of the new gin blossoms single which will hit radio airwaves less than 2 weeks (13 days and counting) When they reformed 2 and a half years ago, they began promising a new album. at summerfest '04, they played songs that they promised would be on the forthcoming album. And they were good. At the casino show i wrote about in fall of '04, they played songs that they promised would be on the forthcomign album. and they were good. At summerfest '05, they played songs that they promised would be on the forthcoming album. and they were good. Finally the recording is done, and the album "Major Lodge Victory" will release on August 8, 2006, just in time for them to play songs at summerfest '06 that they can promise will be on the forthcomign album. and yes, they're good. I have most of the songs on bootleg live recordings anyway. After nearly 10 and a half years, my favorite band is about to release a new album. For those of you new to Ken and not knowing me that well, let me tell you something that will help put my excitement and anticipation about this into a proper perspective. I have worn out not one, but 2 different copies of New Miserable Experience. My uncle scott made a tape for me and i played it till it didn't work anymore. then i bought a cd and played it till it didn't work anymore. now i'm on my second copy of the cd. My previous casino show disappointment at my favorite band now being a casino act for old people has gone away, although they still look like hell, and it's painfully obvious robin wilson is a serious alcoholic now. but his songwriting is much better. I'll be the first to admit that most of Congratulations I'm Sorry wasn't that good. I listen mostly to NME and the EPs and LPs and b-sides from beore it. And what i'm about to say will get me mocked by some but it's true. Doug Hopkins is my Kurt Cobain. There. I said it. Not that i don't love Nirvana or anything, but for me the great tragic talent of 90s music is Doug Hopkins. And he wrote the best songs since hank williams for making you cry yourself to sleep holding a whiskey bottle, which is all i've ever asked for from music. I know where i'll be on Aug. 8. Ken
